Raiders Street Team in Action

Wright Raiders stallion spirit mark

At Wright Global Media and Mass Communications Middle School, students learn that communication extends far beyond the classroom. Our students are developing the skills to create, collaborate, and share ideas with audiences locally and globally.

Through engaging project-based learning experiences and dedicated academic support time (AST), students have opportunities to explore digital media, exchange perspectives, and create meaningful content that reflects their creativity and voice. These opportunities empower Wright students to become more effective communicators, critical and creative thinkers, and responsible digital citizens in a global society.

One unique learning opportunity is the Wright Raider Street Team, led by Mr. Jon Avery, Wright’s Magnet Curriculum Specialist. During this AST, students gain hands-on experience in digital media, journalism, and communication while showcasing the people, programs, and events that make Wright Middle Magnet School special.

The Fundamentals of Content Creation

With Mr. Avery, students are learning the fundamentals of digital content creation, including camera operation, lighting, audio production, and video editing. They also participate in weekly sessions with a local Nashville news reporter to develop interviewing and journalism skills. These experiences led to the launch of the Wright Raider Street Team's weekly video announcements, which are written, recorded, and produced by students and shared with classrooms each Friday. The announcements feature interview segments with students and staff, along with the weekly school updates.

Learning Digital Skills the Wright Way

The Street Team will continue to build their communications and digital media skills throughout the year as they create more content for the school and social media channels throughout the year.

Stay tuned as we continue to grow The Wright Way.
