Cell Phone Policy for Students

  • During School hours cell phones MUST BE switched off and placed in the student’s locker.
  •   A student may possess any electronic device (i.e., cell phones, headphones, iPads, tables, speakers, watches, etc.) on school property, at after-school activities, and at school-related functions, provided that during school hours and on a school bus the cell phone remains off, not on vibrate, and is concealed. They should not be seen at all unless it is used for instructional purposes and monitored by the teacher.
  •  Possession of a cellular telephone by a student is a privilege. All devices brought to the school are at the student’s own risk. The school is not responsible for damaged, lost, or stolen electronics. Searches or investigations will not be conducted for damaged, lost, or stolen electronics.
  •  Any student who fails to abide by the terms of this policy will forfeit their cell phones.
  • Any student failing to follow the above procedures and policies will have their cell phone confiscation until a parent or guardian is able to sign out the device from the front office.
  • A student in possession of a personal communication device in violation with this policy is subject to related disciplinary action.

·      Parent will be required to come to the school to retrieve phone during school hours 9am-4pm and sign for the device.

·      Student will receive 2ndwarning.

·      Parent will be required to come to the school to retrieve phone during school hours 9am-4pm and sign for the device.

 

Third Offense: ______________________________________________________________________________ Date: __________________________

 

·      Phone will be confiscated.

·      Student will be assigned After School detention.

·      Parent will be required to come to the school to retrieve phone during school hours 9am-4pm and sign for the device.

 

Fourth Offense: ______________________________________________________________________________ Date: __________________________

 

·      Phone will be confiscated.

·      Student will receive MIT for up to three days.

·      Parent will be required to come to the school to retrieve phone during school hours 9am-4pm and sign for the device.

 

Fifth Offense: ______________________________________________________________________________ Date: __________________________

 

·      Phone will be confiscated.

·      Student will receive Out-of-School Suspension for up to three days.

·      Parent will be required to come to the school to retrieve phone during school hours 9am-4pm and sign for the device

·      Parent conference will be required to enter into agreement banning phone for remainder of the school year.

·      Students who return to school in violation of agree (i.e. with phone) will be referred for disciplinary action.

 

Severe Clause: Highly inappropriate activities, including but not limited to:

 

·      Text messaging that contains inappropriate content, profanity, intimidation or threats to others

·       Cheating on tests

·      Taking or showing inappropriate photographs.

  • Calling outside groups or individuals to participate in fights, retaliate, or participate in other inappropriate activities on the school ground or at school related events.

·      Refusal to relinquish phone to persons of authority upon request.

·      Continue violations of offense or violations of severs clause may result in suspension from school for up to 10days and to/referral to a Discipline Coordinator. The student in possession of a cell phone on school property or during school related events are responsible for its care.
